The lecture provides a general biographical introduction to Hogarth, looking at the variety of forms he worked in, from his ‘Modern Moral Subjects’
and Conversation Pieces, to his portraiture and attempts at History painting. It will explore Hogarth’s intimate involvement with the social
and political climate of his times.
This will give us a good grounding for our arranged visit to the Foundling Museum and Hogarth Collection in London that follows this talk on
19th April.
